As a part of the community, the Kanawha Valley SoapBox Derby Association has a mission to educate and inspire youth through fair and honest competition. The Soap Box Derby is a youth racing program which has run nationally since 1934. Boys and girls ages 8-17 compete in simplified cars built from kits purchased for the All-American Soap Box Derby. Today, the Little Creek Park track is recognized as the country’s premier soap box derby racing facility and is the only lighted track for night racing. In addition to the annual qualifying race for the world championship in Akron, Ohio, there are fourteen other races, including one for handicapped boys and girls.
So many events are held during the year that it is impossible to catalog them all here, but the KVSBDA has a great Facebook page that will let you follow all the events through the year.
